WA: Headmaster resigns over "inappropriate websites"

PERTH, Aug 8 AAP - The headmaster of one of Perth's most exclusive schools has resignedafter accessing "inappropriate" internet websites at the school.
Chairman of the Wesley College council, Craig Readhead, confirmed today the schoolhad accepted John Bednall's resignation last Friday.
Mr Readhead said the matter had been referred to the police.
Police would not comment on the matter, saying no charges had been laid.
The exclusive Wesley College, in leafy South Perth, has educated sporting luminariessuch as AFL star Ben Cousins and cricketing brothers Adam Hollioake and his late brotherBen.
Wesley called in consultants to deal with the media fallout from the incident.
The school said it would not elaborate on the content of what it called inappropriatewebsites for legal reasons.
Mr Readhead said the school did not condone the accessing of inappropriate websites.
"What has occurred is inappropriate and unacceptable by Wesley's strict standards,"
Mr Readhead said in a statement.
"The Council has taken the most appropriate action in seeking Mr Bednall's immediate resignation.
"While this is an unfortunate incident, parents should be aware that it was our monitoringsystem which identified the inappropriate use of a computer and we have acted swiftly,decisively and with integrity."
Mr Readhead told parents the school council had the issue under control and there wasnot a widespread misuse of school resources.
"Parents can be confident Council has this unfortunate situation under control andhave complete confidence in the College management and school staff," he said.
