NSW: Trade with Latin America has huge potential

A trade expert says Brazilians have taken to the backyard Hills Hoist, one of many
products with the potential to earn big money for Australian exporters.

Australia's senior trade commissioner in Latin America, ROB CHARD, predicts Latin America
could become the next South East Asia of Australian trade.

He's told a Sydney business seminar the low Australian dollar and the enduring post-Olympic
high offers an optimum occasion for Australia to push for increased trade with South America.

Mr CHARD says Australia made $1.4 billion in trade with Latin America last year, but
this could increase 10-fold over the next decade.

He says the market's enormous and even the old Aussie backyard clothesline, the Hills
Hoist, is selling in Brazil.
